Subject: It doesn't mean I love 40 lobs of books

> The main point that I think that most adults miss in this point is weight. Many higher level classes require 500 sheets of paper /class to be carried at one time. This is on top of text books. If you have not been to school in a while you may have forgotten how heavy paper is. I believe it to be stunting growth of students. As on I can say that my backpack has caused back problems. Laptops are quite a bit lighter. Now I should not say that computers completley replace paper, as computers will not be able to be read in 10000 years time, if history is to repeat. However in the K-12 grades, weight is the main issue, not posterity.

Making students carry 40 pounds of textbooks every day may in fact be banned by the Constitution. It sounds "cruel and unusual" :)
Also, there are a lot of other reasons to question whether textbooks really do the job we expect of them... look at some of our schools' test scores.
The main thing to remember is this: skepticism about the laptop proposal doesn't mean supporting the status quo.
