Subject: Funding and Usage

First off, I'm for the usage of Laptops for a couple reasons. a.)Weight - Carrying around so much weight of several thick and large books takes a giant toll on every student. I often find myself in pain at the end of the day because on top of simply carrying a backpack around, I also participate in some extracurricular activies (Drumline/Band/DrumMajor) that puts an even bigger stress on the bodies of me and my friends. b.)Knowledge - The repercussions of using a laptop in school will probably not at all affect the way we (the students) will function in the future, but instead, strengthen our 'abilities to use' and 'understanding' of the technology that's replacing other forms of learning.

Yes, textbooks are reliable and are cheaper, but maybe this shouldn't be a discouragement to exploring the usage of computers in school. What if the usage of laptops was limited to trial classes or lended to a handful of students? I'm currently enrolled in a Multi-Media Production course which is amazing. I've learned several things about computers and I find it helpful to have a computer at my whim to use whenever I'm in need of something that's fast, has several uses, and is a teaching tool. I personally knew a student who used a laptop, and he said it helped him with note taking and writing reports in class. Just imagine what it would be like if you could put whole textbooks on a laptop, hand it to a student, and say, "Go to work." That'd be pretty simple.

Also, where would funding come from for all these laptops if it did come to pass that laptops could be used versus textbooks? I'm sure there are ways to get around these money issues, but I'm just really curious as to how we could all pay for these laptops? The price of computers are going down. Maybe some computers can be designed specifically with the usage of storing textbook information on them at a reduced price. Just some ideas.
