> In reading some of the different discussions, there is a repeated a concern that the computers bought today will be obsolete in a couple of years.

One of the reasons so many people are (overly) enthusiastic about computers for schools is the claim "Our kids need computer skills to survive in the 21st century workplace. The way to give them those skills is to start them really early."

The point I try to reminds folks about is this: even the most up to date computer given to today's 5th grader is obsolete as measured by the standards of the workplace in 2010.

By then computers will be very different and many may not even have keyboards or mice as we know them today.
